J. Dalton discusses his ‘The Tales of Mordratha!’ series
In August of 2016, I was diagnosed with CML leukemia, and wasn’t expected to make it to Christmas. I wanted to leave something for my grandkids to remember me by, so I wrote a little Sci-Fi book for them called “The Gates to the Galaxies!” where I included some little treats about them and things they did or said growing up. Then, I realized I liked telling stories and began having dreams about them. The stories came to me one or two chapters a night like a movie playing in my head. They were in full color and all the characters had their own voices. I just wrote down what happened each night. That’s how my original trilogy, “The Saga of the Ones!” happened, and now “The Tales of Mordratha!” developed the same way.
While being described by a beta reader as “Old fashioned Pulp Science Fiction,” The Tales of Mordratha series continues the story of Captain Chen in the style of the original “Star Trek”, and “Battlestar Galactica” series. This trilogy adds to the ensemble stories of the original crew of the Gibraltar, while introducing several new characters.
Little eight-year old Wisper grant is the first to be exposed to ancient alien spores. She is the first to change and as the first, becomes Mordratha, the new Queen of the Rakshesha, (The eaters of man). As she grows her new hive, she realizes there are not enough humans here to sustain them for long, and so, she must find a way off this planet and expand her new species across the galaxy. She and a select few of her hive find their way aboard the ore freighter Stargazer, and head out to new worlds.
If it weren’t for bad luck, the Stargazer wouldn’t have any luck at all as it collides with the Gibraltar as it exits a wormhole. The collision sends the Stargazer on a path to uncharted areas of the universe, and the Rakshesha and the ship’s survivors on separate adventures.
The surviving members of the Stargazer crew manage to escape to a primitive planet with two suns and are captured and used as slaves. While there, they encounter a river of fire, Grey aliens, foreign spacecraft, time distortion and soon, a dangerous encounter with the Dratle. The Dratle never leave their own planet, but control droids and mechs galaxies away by using telepathic messages. Patrick is starting to develop feelings for Jesse, the Stargazer’s pilot, but will the things she is forced to do to keep them alive change that?
Jessie and Krieg find themselves being held prisoners on the Dratle specimen ship from which no captured species has ever escaped. The odds of finding and rescuing Jessie and Kreig are approximately six-billion, eight-hundred and four million to one. It will take a miracle for them to be saved. Meanwhile, the Rakshesha have their own problems. The Ones are trying to manipulate them into killing the humans for them, but Mordratha is onto their scheme and has plans of her own.

The pace never slows in this exciting trilogy, and although new concepts of space travel and physics are introduced, they are well explained and absolutely believable.
Telling these stories has given me a new lease on life and is something I can do with my mind that others seem to actually like. As an author of Science-Fiction, I never write “The End”, because there are too many possible stories waiting out there. In fact, I’m working on a few right now.
I hope you enjoy reading these books as much as I enjoyed writing them! All my Science Fiction books are ALWAYS FREE with Kindle Unlimited, $2.99 to own in e-book form or available in print… because I’d rather have you read my books, than make money!
